Filler Treatment
There are two types of subcutaneous fat layers on our face: “youthful facial fat” and “excess facial fat.” As we age, the youthful fat tends to shrink, while excess fat accumulates, leading to an aged, tired, and sagging appearance. Although exercise can help reduce excess fat, it cannot restore the youthful fat to its former levels as in adolescence.
Filler treatment involves using dermal fillers to replace the lost youthful fat or to enhance facial contours for a more balanced appearance. While various types of fillers exist, the only legally approved filler in Thailand is Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is a biodegradable substance that gradually dissolves within 6 months to 2 years, depending on the specific type and brand. Different HA fillers have unique properties, such as density, spreadability, elasticity, and water retention capacity. Therefore, selecting the appropriate type of HA filler for each treatment area is crucial.
The risks associated with filler injections arise when the filler compresses or blocks blood vessels, which can restrict blood flow to certain tissues. If the blockage occurs in a vessel that supplies the retina, it can even lead to blindness. For this reason, filler injections must be performed by highly experienced and skilled medical professionals to ensure both the effectiveness and safety of the procedure.
